One month from today we will be leaving Japan and moving back to the US. I feel so sad about it to be honest. Our time here ended earlier than expected and it feels premature. I know there’s something new and good just around the corner though I can’t see it yet, I just have to trust that good things are coming. LA Im coming for you! I plan to do a giveaway of Disney Japan swag and Japanese drugstore beauty products before I leave. Is there anything you’d be excited about in a giveaway? 📸 @inkimono 👗 @seamstressofb 👒 @uniquevintage 👜 @voodoovixenldn 🧦 @whatkatiediduk#retro#retrostyle#retrofashion#1940sfashion#1940sdress
Today, @tranamandaa and I Iaunched our first business: @shop.truce, a Canadian online store selling a curated collection of vintage and secondhand pieces. My brain is a little mushy right now after the past few days of all-nighters, but here are 2 takeaways from this experience:
1. Starting up a small business is hard. Obvious, I know, but I never fully appreciated that fact until doing it myself. I don't know how I would have done it without my wonderful sister in law/business partner (who also helped keep me sane). I certainly have a newfound empathy for all of the small ethical brands I work with!
2. The people who rally around you make it worth it. We've received so much support from family and friends leading up to the big launch, and now we're seeing support from everyone who has messaged us today with encouraging words or shouted us out or placed an order in the shop. It's an incredible thing to be a part of, and we're so grateful. Every order you place makes us do a happy dance inside!
Thank you for supporting small women-owned businesses! And thanks for sticking around here at @allyctran while I've been MIA for the past while.
I also would like to shout out @evergreen.vintage and @prairiebazaar for their support and willingness to answer some of our questions about starting a shop like this. And @noshbynourish for being our YYC local pickup location. Be sure to check out their wonderful stores as well! 💕
And lastly, a shoutout to my incredible husband who has been making the meals without complaint and keeping me fed while I've been hunkered down the past month working on this.
