Is your Goal to get to Kona?
The Kona landscape is changing and its only getting harder! Experience has shown that it takes a couple of tries in Hawaii to really nail down a successful day.
Some key observations from Kona over the years:
1. Its getting harder to qualify
2. The racing dynamic is different than other events
3. You need to be able to run to win
This morning, everyone seemed to be up for a #swim . Five people to a lane slowed everything down.
In the end, I swam "only" one mile. Funny to think that four years ago, when I couldn't swim freestyle and would either not go at all when @tri_zan_athon asked if I wanted to swim ("too cold!") or stop after 400m (cramping!), a mile seemed impossible.
Wonderful, how we can keep on learning and expanding our limits!
Oh. And then a colleague surprised us with #ice -cream. Yay!
Let’s talk about food rules. Do you have a food rule, even a subconscious one?
I used to never get chips with my sandwich, mostly because they weren’t my fave, but also I just saw it as empty calories. And then I got pregnant and all I wanted was potatoes in ANY form 🥔😝 This made me think about other food rules I may be following without even realizing it.
This was my lunch the other day- leftover spaghetti 🍝 with @eatbanza pasta, not even in a proper bowl because who wants more dishes #momlife I also had this for dinner the night before.
What’s missing? Nothing! Sure, I could have added a salad 🥗 for some veggies. I normally do! But I’ve had a lot of salads lately and didn’t want a salad either time. Old me would have been thinking, oh no gotta have only veggies for dinner 🤦🏼♀️ Nope, that’s an old food rule. I know it will all balance out.

What do you eat during your workouts? It’s so important to find nutrition that works for you. Why?
Because if you don’t fuel properly, you’ll hit a wall and bonk, making the rest of your race miserable, or worse- DNF. Or you’ll choose the wrong fuel and it will give you cramps, sloshing, or nausea 🤢
Plus, if you’re not fueling during your workouts, you’re more likely to not recover well and this could increase your hunger ALL day, especially carb cravings. Does that sound like you?

I’m not gonna lie. Today was one of the worst days. I was told I have a stress fracture in my 5th metatarsal plus edema (fluid) in like 5 other bones in my foot. AKA I ran/walked too long on a fractured foot. I am absolutely heartbroken. I can’t run for another month and am told another month of rehab on top of that. I’m not gonna lie I cried A LOT today. Like for real my doctor gave me a cry room for awhile. It was bad. .
BUT I fucking sucked it up and showed up to grand blue mile tonight and did the recreational division on my scooter. And finished in 9:21. Literally exactly 3 minutes slower than last year. For a knee scooter I’ll take it. And I got to watch my friends compete and fucking kill it. .

Do you know your training zones?!
One of the biggest things holding age group athletes back from reaching their full potential is training intensity. The easy days are not easy enough and the hard days are not hard enough.
Easy days need to be very low intensity to develop cardiovascular and respiratory fitness as well as mental toughness. Keeping the workouts at the proper intensity decreases recovery time and may also reduce risk of injury.
When your easy days are easy you have more energy and focus for the hard days so you can push a bit harder and truly train at the high intensity that results in physiological changes that make your body stronger, faster, and ready to respond on race day.
Today I did a zone 1 run with some zone 4 intervals. To keep myself honest I programmed my workout into my watch with alarms to indicate when I strayed outside of my zones.
Zone one was comfortable and easy enough I could breath through my nose the whole time! (More to come on nose breathing later) BUT I felt more like I was shuffling than running and when other runners passed me it was humbling and a little embarrassing. Taming the ego and focusing on your own training in your own zones is challenging!!
The zone 4 intervals were equally as challenging in completely different ways. I realized that what I used to think of as HARD effort was really just medium. I can push a lot more and sustain for longer durations than I though possible. .
Don't let your expectation and preconceived notions of yourself and your performance hold you back from achieving your best!!

“Nothing worth having comes easy.”
I always forget how hilly Rio Rancho is until I decide to do a run in my neighborhood. 🙈 A thirty minute run after work to get my heart rate up and some miles in the bank.
Jutro idę do szpitala na zabieg usunięcia przepukliny pachwinowej. W związku z tym od ponad 2 tygodni mam kolejne roztrenowanie. Choć mi trochę tęskno za sportem wiem co jest priorytetem, zdrowie. Dzięki niemu możemy wszystko. Nie wiem ile czasu będzie trwała rekonwalescencja, ale przetrwam go 💥
Nieważne czy po tym etapie roztrenowania będę znów mieć oponkę i + 3 kg tak jak na zdjęciu po lewej, które jest z lutego czy może więcej?
Ja lubię się w obu wersjach. ———
To nie jest żadna moja metamorfoza. Wygląd po prawo, to tylko skutek uboczny treningów triathlonowych i małej ilości słodyczy, bo w obu przypadkach dieta jest podobna. Może nie każdy z Was wie, ale od 5 lat jestem semiwegetarianką czyli jem prawie wszystko poza np. mięsem, nabiałem i jajkami, (jem ryby). Bardzo tego pilnuję bo choruję na łuszczycę i jak wykazały badania, moja skóra nie toleruje tych składników więc musiałam je wyeliminować. Powinnam też nie jeść słodyczy, to jak chyba każdy 😂 To właśnie wtedy kiedy mam roztrenowanie lub trenuję rekreacyjnie, a pochłaniam ich za dużo, efekt jest zaraz taki jak po lewej. Tym postem chce Wam tylko pokazać, że czasem niewiele trzeba, aby szybko nabrać balastu, gorzej go zrzucić, dlatego ja bardzo lubię trenować bo przy okazji trochę lepiej wyglądam.

I slacked on this last Saturday's #BettySquadChallenge but here it goes... This year has been so great to get to know the #BettySquad girls. These pictures show a few of my favorite memories from this season. Each girl is so unique and beautiful in their own way, but it is so perfect that each one of these ladies has the exact same priorities as me. They each encompass the mantra #BadAssIsBeautiful and have helped me become a better triathlete and even a better person in so many ways. Whether it was camp, racing, wine tasting, or cheering I know each of these girls are watching out for me and have my back. As #BettySquad2018 comes to a close I just wanted to thank all of my girls for such an excellent season and good luck to all those applying to the squad.
