after a few days of shorter runs, finally a window for a longer one - a #solo#halfmarathon . ·
pleasantly surprised by a #PB of 2:09:24 which took five whole minutes off my previous #HM timing. kept looking at the #garmin and was filled with doubt if i could keep up the 6:10ish pace through the entire distance as it was inhumanly hot and humid. and tummy was giving me the middle finger. ·
... and somehow i did. just goes to show, whilst i’m not a fast runner, i can be faster than i have been! ·
swipe for route and stats! ·
Love bank holiday bonus runs! Easy miles through Rendlesham Forest with @_forest.runner Great way to start the day 🦌🐇🐿🐦Hoping to get some decent mileage this week to get back on track for summer season.
Well a decent race day photo is an accomplishment for me. If you know me, you’ll know I’m a duck runner who makes faces when I’m running. 🙈 my friends often ask me who do I want to kill when I’m running. Not sure if I should answer that. Wouldn’t be very yogini of me 😜 but glad I have a half decent photo 😎
Nervous excitement is how I’d describe how I felt when I set off this morning. All I had in my head was ‘all the gear and no idea’, but I needn’t have been nervous because that ride was AWESOME. I’m certain I’ll look back on today with fondness as I get more into cycling; this sport is going to be one that I take to and today marked my start point.
So what did I learn on ride #1 :
🚴🏼♂️ ‘Easy’ rides are far easier (ergo enjoyable) than easy runs.
🚴🏼♂️ It gets cold when you cycle!
🚴🏼♂️ Cleats are incredible. So glad I bought them - I felt connected to my bike, at one with it.
🚴🏼♂️ I need to name my bike.
🚴🏼♂️ Even with bib shorts (which I think I look hilarious in), my undercarriage took some action.
🚴🏼♂️ Singing whilst I ride is perfectly ok.
🚴🏼♂️ I need me one of those computer thingys on my handlebars. Cycling opens up a whole new world of explorative possibilities.
🚴🏼♂️ I smashed my running 5k PB 🤷🏼♂️.
All that remains now is to learn open water swimming... 🏊♂️ 🚲 🏃🏼♂️ 💪🏼👨🏼 😉
So many of you achieving great things in big races, marathons, hm’s, 10 & 5k this weekend, there’s been crazy weather conditions, new pb’s, fab medals and big smiling faces. You are all fabulous and well done to you all!
I really needed to hear this quote today! I'm exhausted and I feel that I'm not even close to my goal for the end of this week I have 2/3 runs left to achieve my goal and I'm so far from it I feel its impossible! Really lacking motivation today but hopefully it will pick up!
Enjoyed a run/ walk up to the top of Calton Hill to see the view of the city with @loretta_rose this morning🏴

What a week it's been, starting with our first #toughmudder . I learned my sister is even stronger, tougher and more determined a mother than I knew. She learned she can talk me into pretty much anything. And we learned we can count on total strangers to help us out when the going gets tough. To all you new #mudder friends that helped us conquer our obstacles, cheered us on and accepted help from us, thank you! You are amazing! #muddernation#butdidyoudie#obstaclecourse
Today’s #MondayMotivation comes from Jo who ran the Longhorn 10k with her husband to raise money for Nottingham Hospitals. Jo wanted to raise money for a local cause and thought the 10k was a perfect challenge for her.
Don’t leave it dangling out in front and crash on to the heel. The action is down and back. Clear the way for the hips to come through.
Front leg can be conditioned with neuromuscular run drills. - walking kick outs
- b skips
- straight leg bounds
💫 Success is not a linear path...there will be ups and downs along the way 💫
It’s taken me a little while to process this weekends marathon. The race didn’t exactly go the way I had hoped...I didn’t PR...I didn’t get that BQ. The humidity reached 97% with temps higher than I have been running in and my body wasn’t happy about it.
While I am disappointed, I am thankful. Thankful that my body can carry me 26.2 miles, thankful that my amazing family was there to support me, thankful that I finished the race with my IT Band happy, and thankful for this awesome running community who motivates me daily to keep working hard towards my dreams.
I often become so focused on my goals, that if I fall short I can’t find joy in what I just accomplished. I have been in this funk all too often. I am working hard to focus more on the journey- to focus on all of the positives and to use this experience to help fuel my next training cycle. Our body achieves what our mind believes 🙌 I am chasing some big goals this year! .
For now I am going to enjoy a couple weeks of rest and then refocus on that next training cycle. Thank you to everyone who messaged me kind words this weekend- your support means the world to me 💗
