#throwbackthursday to my first Half Iron... very optimistic going in, very defeated coming out... if you follow the progression of photos.. I’d say my face on the last one summarizes how I felt about that race 😂🤷♀️
I was having a great bike, was in first for women, took a hard turn on rough pavement and broke not one, not two, but THREE spokes. My bike was virtually unrideable. The “sad wagon” came by to pick me up and assumed I was done. I asked if I was technically allowed to run/walk bike back, and since I was at mile 44, would be running 25 miles instead of 13. Ultimately I was able to ride the next 12 STANDING UP... since the tension breaking caused the wheel to rub the frame 😫😫😫
But by the time I got to the run, which was 🔥 1,000 degrees, I was pissed. And I let it motivate me. Got it done.
Said never again. Said there’s NO WAY I could ever do a FULL IM. Went home and signed up for a full that day.
