This race was almost a month ago. It was one of the hardest races I've ran in my whole life. Preparing for it I became injured and during this race I was in pain almost every step. It felt like everything was stacked against me, at one point my husband even asked if I should run it! I was stressed too say the least.
During this race about when this photo was being taken I remembered to enjoy the little things. I remembered even when everything feels stacked against me I can still at least have fun. And I PR'd. Seeing my time made me feel like everything was worth it.
For me I feel this race was a metaphor for what I've been going through mentally lately. In my mind everything has felt stacked against me, and I'm constantly paralyzed by my fear. But with God I can succeed. With God even when life is hard I can still smile because He is on my side.

39:30 PR in Saturday’s rainy/humid #monumentave10k with perfectly even splits of 19:45-19:45! I actually purchased this photo (which no one EVER does lol) because I was really pleased with how my body looks in it. After experiencing some bullying about my weight growing up, body image is something I have continued to struggle with well in to adulthood. SO I wanted to have this as a gentle reminder that I have come such a long way in terms of personal care, both physically and mentally! I am still learning to appreciate myself unconditionally, but today I feel healthy, loved, and STRONG. No one is in charge of your happiness except for you.❣️
This years #monumentave10k is in the books. Had a great run which capped off 8 weeks of preparation. My goal was to decrease my run time by more than 3 minutes from last year and finish in under 40 minutes.
Did I meet my goal? Close but a little over....my run time was 40:51
So I didn't quite meet my goal but I had a good go at it. I am thrilled I decreased my time by almost 2 minutes from last year and I know I gave it my best out there.
There is now time to appreciate the improvements I made from last year, reflect on some training I can do differently, and move on to my next goal 😀 My health & fitness goals may constantly change but the journey continues...
Had to work for this one! 😅
Huge thank you to @collegiaterunning for generously supporting collegiate athletes! They only require that an athlete is enrolled in one college credit to be eligible for any of their championships and I love doing these races so much that I enrolled just for the #monumentave10k
I chose a physics class because I really wanted to know why it feels like I’m floating when I jump at just the right time in the elevator at work. The class ends this week and I’m pleased to report that I actually did learn about. I also learned that someone who does physics for a living is called a physicist and NOT a physician
Next year I think I’ll take a geography class because I was homeschooled (love you mom) and until about a year ago, I thought Alaska was actually to the left of California since that’s how it looks on all the maps for some reason. FYI I was born in Alaska and I think it’s really rude that it gets shoved in the corner of the map like an afterthought rather than the dang last frontier that it is 🏔 #ineverlivedinanigloo#thanksforasking#running
Because a challenge is so much easier (and more fun) with friends!
This was true for the Monument Ave 10k and is true for my day to day fitness. It isn’t feasible to schedule daily workouts with friends, but we can check in with each other in the challenge group!
Based off your request, I have opened 5 mid month spots! You don’t have to wait until May jump in now!!

Huge congratulations to our America’s Fit Ms.. on completing the Monument 10k..in the RAIN with a broken toe 😭
In 2015 I got the idea to run the Monument Avenue 10K as Magnum P.I. That’s where the “10K” comes from in my handle. My wife suggested I build a Ferrari to go along with my costume and the rest was history. My buddy Ricardo built a helicopter and we were ready to rock. The 2016 Monument Avenue 10K was a day I will never forget, cheers to celebrating 20 years of Richmond’s best event. Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing a few more of these throwback photos from the 2016 race.
After the 2016 race I put together some clips and posted it on YouTube. 🚨IT DID NOT GO VIRAL🚨 🤪🤷🏻♂️

In 2000 I ran the first Monument Avenue 10k. I was 23 and a very new runner. Along the years I got married and had 3 kids, but always kept running. Today marked my 12th 10k and my second time running it with my daughter, who is 11 years old. I was proud of the years I’d work hard and PR, but Nothing compares to the joy and pride of running with my daughter and watching her determination and strength when it got tough. Today she PR’d and got to ring that bell! This phase of running for me may be the best yet. #riseandrun#runrva#monument10k#running#pr#ringtheprbell#10krace#sportsbackers#runningmom#runlikeagirl#monumentave10k
