You’ll get more value from listening than talking. If you want to stay on top of your game you need to keep learning. And a great way to keep learning is to start listening. Not listening to what others say can cause you to miss out on a lot of important ideas and lessons

Feature Fri Marathon Monday!
As if you’ve only been running since ya 40’s! Read all about Joe’s running journey in this double feature! If you don’t get chance to run with this guy on a club session you can almost be certain to find him running the Rosliston Pk Run..now into his 100+ Pk Run 👊🏻
So Joe when did you start running & why?
Took up running properly in my early 40s to “use it or lose it”.
When did you join LRC?
Started training with LRC a year ago and joined in October.
Best race/run route to date?
Silverstone HM - you get to know the race track intimately and set a fast time at the same time.
Probably London Marathon but depends if Edinburgh goes ok...
Motivation Top tip?
Run with company to get through long mileage, try to have a race in mind so you are training for an end result which will help when it’s cold and wet.
Favourite run snack?
I use High5 gels during any race from 10k upwards.
How many marathons have you done?
Two, and they were a bit of a disaster; pulled out of one with injury and hit the wall at 16 miles on the second.
Training so far how’s it gone?
It’s gone well, with plenty long runs in the company of LRC on Sundays. Training runs are much easier if you’re running with company, the miles just fly by.
Best long run?
Running in the hills around Ilam, Derbyshire.
Post run treat?
Pint of beer and crisps.
Not this time.
Thinking that it’s too much to ask of my body over such a long distance keeps entering my mind.
Never had any problems.

The past two months have been really inconsistent in the gym and with my nutrition compared to the year prior. But I constantly tell other people not to get down on themselves about missing a day or eating a shitty meal. It’s important for me to live that too but to also not let those missed days turn into missed weeks and months and those shitty meals turn into a nutritional downturn. Pick it back up and get back in it. And push yourself. .
I’ve been dealing with this sprained MCL for a month or so. It’s felt better over the past few days so today was the first time I really pushed it in some explosive movements, both vertically and laterally. And what better way than with some defensive slides and double unders? Gassed me out tho.

Not a broke real nigga or a rich clown
And I coach lil niggas in the mix now
Got em thinkin' pro tools 'stead of pistols
And I train these bitches like a pit now
Every time that I pull up at the Ritz now
They be like young hussle you the shit now
Young, rich, and famous plus I'm handsome and I'm faded
I'm just climbin' up this ladder that my swagger has created it
My intelligence has got them so intimidated

I am so ready to start my next medal rack so praying this will be a solution🏅
Went to a great doctor at NYU. As other doctors have said- my MRI and X-rays show some signs of effusion, but he explained that it’s so minimal he does not feel that is the cause of all this.
His words were if he took any 50 people off the street right now half their results would show the same. Everything that is showing is all pretty common- (even the small cyst behind my knee)
He was surprised to hear I had no relief after two cortisone injections in different locations. The next plan of action is to see if I can be approved for a gel shot. He is hoping that will help lubricate my joint, which may be causing my discomfort. It seems my pain is worse with heavy impact.
Hoping my insurance allows it as I hear it’s often difficult to be approved... update to follow..🤞🏼

ad| How I cut over 41 minutes off my marathon time in 11 months? Hard work, fuelling well and keeping the belief that my sub 4 would happen 💪🏼
A lot of you will be carb loading ahead of @londonmarathon this week, so here’s my top tips (I’m not a nutritionalist but this is what worked so well for me at @manchestermarathon) 🏃🏽♀️
🔹I tend to begin carb loading from the Wednesday before a Sunday marathon. For me this just means adding a few additional carbs to what I’m already eating, ie a slightly larger portion of pasta. Don’t go mad early on otherwise you’ll be left feeling bloated and sluggish 👎🏼
🔹As the week goes on increase the amount of carbs you’re eating. Friday and Saturday are my bigger carb days, I have a pasta based meal two days in a row, have porridge for breakfast each day and have two bagels for my lunch 🍝
🔹Eat your last big meal earlier on the Saturday, eg a lovely big carby lunch on the Saturday (my go to is fresh pasta in tomato sauce and a side of garlic bread) and a slightly smaller meal in the evening. This will help your food settle and ensure you can get the best nights sleep possible! 😴
🍝 Carbs are an essential part of your diet, especially if you’re endurance training, and I’m proud to team up with @vapianoUK for their #eatpastarunfaster campaign. Carbs are cool and it’s great to see a company endorsing this! Good luck to everyone getting ready for London Marathon! It’s my last big run of my Liverpool Marathon training this weekend too so we’re all in this together 💪🏼 . #AD#eatpastarunfaster#carbloading#londonmarathon#marathonmedal#racebling#carbsarelife#medalmonday#marathonmonday

Love is in the air for Team #RunDFMC ! This year’s race will always have an extra special place in the hearts of four @DanaFarber Marathon Challenge team members. Congratulations to Sarah, Haley, Josh, and David, who all got engaged yesterday, on #MarathonMonday ! #Boston2019 ❤️
Oh Boston, you didn’t make it easy did you??! Here’s my recap, even though it was seriously a blur, and I still don’t know really what went down.
🌚 The night before I couldn’t even turn over. My lower back was ceasing up on me. Sometimes, when I spend long periods of time on my feet this happens. Standing at the expo so long and walking everywhere on Sunday really did a number to my lower back and glutes. I took ibuprofen and hoped it’d relax by morning.
🚌 I woke up with the back still tight, but a lot better than hours earlier, so that was good! I caught a later bus than I should have because I was hoping the rain would stop and I wouldn’t have to be out in it long. Instead, I waited in the pouring rain and finally hopped on about 8am. Luckily, I sat next to a really nice lady who I was able to chat with on the SUPER long ride. Holy crap it took forever. I was starting to really wonder if I could make it back so far on foot 😩.
🚽 The porta-potty lines were crazy! I literally only had time to use the bathroom, change my shoes, shed my throw away clothes and book it to the start line. It was a good way to get my warm up jog in though!
1️⃣-4️⃣ I was on pace with what I was supposed to do miles 1-4, kept it about a 7:25 pace in the dot!
5️⃣-9️⃣ 7:23 pace (coach said about 7:22, so feeling ok about this). I was still in good spirits at this point and tried to make some jokes, that didn’t go over so well. At 6 miles I turned to the guy next to me and said, “This is a 10k right?” He said- “no English.” Right before the 10K mark, I tried it again and said the same thing to another guy. He looked at me very concerned and said, “No, this is a marathon, a marathon is 26.2 miles.” Ok, thanks buddy 🙄🤣. •
1️⃣0️⃣-1️⃣6️⃣- I slowed down a little bit, but still averaged about 7:30 pace overall. I saw my family at 12.5 and switched water bottles (that’s where this pic was taken). Around mile 13, I started getting a really tight right glute and felt like I couldn’t speed up without it screaming at me.
1️⃣7️⃣-2️⃣6️⃣.2- was all a blur to me. I look back at the race pics and I just have my head down and my feet moving forward. I was in survival mode. Cont⬇️
