Qualcuno corre per vincere.
Altri per sfidare se stessi.
Io corro perchè mi rende felice e per ricevere un semplice abbraccio al mio arrivo.
Tu perchè corri? @run_to_feel_better .
Someone runs to win.
Others to challenge themselves.
I run because it makes me happy and to receive a simple hug after #finishline .
Why are you running?
And it’s a wrap for this marathon training cycle😀Thank God for the strength to get through 16 weeks of long winter runs, speed workouts, tempo, tempo and more tempo runs. Praying for the best on Sunday.

Throwback to last saturday @2oceansmarathon 56k/35miles Capetown 🇿🇦
The first 16km are a little boring running on a straight street towards the Indian Ocean to Muizenberg. Once there its a nice view and the sun came up putting everything in a glow. I got caught in a heavy downpour at KM 18 but it was a warm morning. Ran along the indian ocean waterfront until KM21. KM26 marked the start of a nasty slow incline of 300m/900ft for 8km. Some amazing views during the ascent onto Fishhoek, Noordhoek (Beach) and the Atlantic Ocean, and on top of the hill on Ou Kaapse Weg into the valleys. Steep descent on the other side. My quads were screaming at me but it felt good to just run with the flow after that slow uphill. Breathtaking views again to Indian Ocean and Capetown. KM42 approaching the southeast side of the Tablemountain. I could now feel my empty energy level but was able to maintain a stable pace. Took a caffein energy gel and it worked. It gave me a nice push that i needed. Once at KM 48 with only 8 to go, it almost is only downhill from there and my fastest km during the whole run was KM53 with 4:15min. I felt strong and powerful. Pushing it all the way to my limits, with Boston still in my system. At KM55 i could already here the finishline party. I entered the Capetown University Rugby Field and people on both sides were going crazy. I could now see the finishline. I hugged my family who was waiting for me for hours and crossed the finish at 5:03:40. I had a little cry and thanked the universe for holding it all in place and letting me run Berlin Half, Boston and Two Oceans without injury 🏅
I was very upset when they announced a late course change on Friday, leaving out Chapmans Peak and Hout Bay. But the alternative route did not dissapoint. Love the 50th anniversary medal (see previous post). Will be back next year to finally run on Chapmans Peak 😇
Time to rest now before going into the next preparation cycle leading to @maratonadoriooficial RIO DE JANEIRO Marathon in nine weeks 💪🏼

I joined the club in 2008. I'd been training on my own and ran the Carlsbad Half in 2007, but wanted to improve my times and get a better structure to my training so I joined the running club. I continue in the running club because I saw the outcomes I was hoping for and made a lot of friends in the process! My current goals are just keeping active and staying healthy.

Last run before I head to Cali in the AM. I'm so nervous about this marathon tour that I just need to start already.
Give me some sun rays, a beach and a bit of that West Coast music baby.
Shout out to the gym being the MVP for my stomach. Yeah, having broccoli the night before a run is asking for trouble.
Sending good vibes to all of us doing halves and full marathons this weekend across the world.
Just because everyone else is doing it 😉 - here’s my #throwbackthursday to the @londonmarathon 2011! My first marathon 🤗
This is my dad - he was SO proud of me! He’d bought me a gym membership a few years prior, never thinking I’d actually go. It was then when I found my love of running and I wanted to see just how far I could go. I got a place in London through a local charity (the pressure of fundraising was honestly more stressful then the training - wouldn’t do that again in a hurry!) but crossing that finish line still marks one of my biggest achievements and gave me that hunger for more!
Massive good luck to all those taking on London this Sunday - it really is a dream race 😍. I think what’s so great about London is that you will honestly just love the whole experience - it doesn’t matter what your time is! Mine is 23mins slower than my PB but I will always look back on it as my favourite and I dream of running it again one day ❤️
“God causes things to happen at exactly the right time. Your job is not to figure out when, but to make up your mind that you won't give up until you cross the finish line.”
If you’ve followed my journey the last two years you know I’ve had the hardest time feeling “ready” for a marathon again. Mentally & physically.
Recently I added my name to the waitlist of the Traverse City Bayshore Marathon with 30 people ahead of me. I said “if it’s my time, it’ll happen.” .
Friday, randomly, I got an email that they were having a contest where you could submit a story for a free race entry. .
This part of town has meant a lot to me and my family my entire life. Recently, my Grumps passed away in the marathon sponsors hospital. Grumps was always so proud of me when I ran a marathon, he would tell the whole town. The last time I saw him, he even asked “when’s your next race”.
I prayed all weekend, if it was my time, It would happen.
Tuesday morning, without even knowing what was happening, my mom sent me a picture of me and Grumps. And an hour later, I won the contest. .
It’s my time. .
So one month from today, I’ll line up for my 5th marathon. For Grumps.

I have had a mild head cold the last few days which was definitely noticeable today. Feeling very lethargic and flat and would have normally just taken the day off.
It is however a bank holiday here and the weather was glorious. We also spent time at the beach so all these factors conspired against me and of course I gave in to a run (my running gear travels with me).
I'm someone who does not fight things when they are pointing to a certain direction and today the direction was a half marathon. So yes, I probably should have rested to get over this cold. But no, I didn't and this is how I roll.

When looking back doesn’t interest you anymore... you’re doing something right. 60 minutes easy running and a little heart to heart with myself. Skyline 10k and Wonder Woman 5k is on for the weekend! #ColtStrong#wonderwomanbr#bibchat#mckirdytrained

Talking to @runningthedistance90 about our goals for next weekend when we brought up Decker’s Creek Half Marathon in 2016. It was my first half and particularly memorable because the cicadas were in town and dodging swarms of giant flying bugs is always a good time right? 🤣 Anyway I dug way back in RunKeeper archives and found that race and realized I’ve taken an hour off my half marathon time in 3 years. I’ve never considered myself to be fast. I’m not athletic and was never good at or enjoyed sports growing up. And yet here I am aiming for a half marathon in 1:40-1:44 next weekend in my 30s and after babies. 2016 me would have thought that to be impossibly fast (for me). 2014-2015 were tough years for me both physically and mentally and I tend to not look back and keep going forward but sometimes it’s good to see where you were and be proud of your now ♥️ #tbt#keepshowingup#halfmarathoner#marathoner
