🚨 In the context of scale weight, the number on the scale and body fat are different outcomes caused by different factors & need to be distinguished. When you jump on the scales, it is measuring your total body WEIGHT including everything from your bones, muscles, organs, blood, water & more! Day to day the number you see on the scales can fluctuate between 100g to a few kilos due to normal bodily functions such as digestion, metabolic processes, exercise & food choices.
FOOD CHOICES: When you consume a carbohydrate-rich meal or even high sodium food, you are likely to see an increase on the scales following. This is because carbohydrates are stored in the body as glycogen and water is stored along with it. Therefore an increase in water weight can occur. A similar effect is seen with a high salt meal as water accompanies sodium as it enters into your cells.
DIGESTION: If you eat a meal that weighs say 500g, that 500g is going to be added onto your total body weight at the time of consumption. Over the next few hours as it is digested, your body will produce byproducts that can also add to your weight. This is particularly the case when consuming fibre-rich foods that feed your gut bacteria. The gut bacteria will produce gases which can cause bloating and add to your weight.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Resistance training can impact the number on the scales due a process known as sarcoplasmic hypertrophy. Put simply, this is when your muscles retain fluid as an acute response to strenuous muscle contractions - it tends to return to normal within 72 hours. A similar increase in weight is also seen with cardiovascular exercise where the body tends to retain water. Don't fall victim to the old myth that muscle weighs more than fat. Gram for gram, 1kg of fat is the same as 1kg of muscle except that the VOLUME of muscle is much denser than the volume of fat, meaning that muscle will occupy less space than fat, so you might find yourself slimming down, but not necessarily losing weight.

What the “recommend” amount of water is that you need to drink is actually the bare minimum! Try and drink more and you’ll feel a lot better!
